Masha Rubin was born in St. Petersburg. In the early 90’s immigrated to Israel. Since childhood, she has been fascinated by the history of art and her connection to it became an integral part of her work. In 1996-2000 she studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem. Currently, she lives and works in Tel Aviv. Since moving to Israel Masha has been mostly focused her work in a documentary project photo series called 'PERSONAL DIARY’. She photographed obsessively, trying to fill the emptiness of leaving the familiar and plunging into a new reality. All the photographs in these series feature a group of young friends who immigrated to Israel and worked in theatre, music, cinema and the fine arts. This group appears repeatedly in her photos in different situations, creating a realistic and at the same time utopian community. This body of art work suggests the viewer a new territorial space, ‘cutting out’ the surrounding geography.  All projects are long-term, based on deep researches and studies and they smoothly flow one from another, they feed each other and develop in parallel.
